Longtime Rensselaer Falls firefighter Mark Bomyea honored by St. Lawrence County Chiefs

LAWRENCEVILLE – Mark Bomyea, a member of the Rensselaer Falls Fire Department, was honored as the St. Lawrence County Fire Chiefs Association 2024 Firefighter of the Year had their January meeting at Lawrenceville Fire Department Thursday night, Jan. 16. 

Bomyea was nominated by the Rensselaer Falls Fire Department. 

His nomination letter read:

“Mark Bomyea has been honorably serving this department for the past 31 years. Over the years, he has served our department as Chief, 1st Assistant Chief, 2nd Assistant Chief, Foreman, Assistant Foreman, Trustee, Fire Police and Training Officer. He has also served as an EMT for Rensselaer Falls Rescue Squad. He was very instrumental in starting our First Responder Program that started in 1989, being one of our first EMTs. Currently, Mark belongs to the St. Lawrence County Haz-Mat Team, Fire Advisory Board, Believe NNY, St. Lawrence County Fire Training Center, and is also a New York State Certified Fire Service Instructor.  Mark formerly belonged to the St. Lawrence County Fire Chiefs as President, 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President, and Director, and is currently a member. Mark was also an American Heart Association CPR/1st Aid Instructor.”  

“Mark Bomyea is a dedicated advocate for community safety, a true team player, always willing to support fellow members and mentor newer members. His positive attitude and unwavering commitment to the fire service inspires those around them. Over the years, many have witnessed Mark’s exceptional dedication, unwavering courage, and exemplary performance in the line of duty, consistently going above and beyond expectations.”

In conclusion, Mark Bomyea embodies the highest standards of professionalism and service within our department, making him an outstanding candidate for the "Firefighter of the Year" award. He has maturity, commitment, and integrity, and takes his job very seriously. On behalf of the members of the Rensselaer Falls Fire Department, it is with great honor that we nominate Mark Bomyea as this year's St. Lawrence County Fire Chief’s Fireman of the Year.
