Katherine F. Metcalf, 81, Canton

Katherine F. Metcalf, 81, of Canton died peacefully, early Thursday morning, August 29, 2024 at the United Helpers Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Canton, where she was in the company of family.  

Kathy was born on May 9, 1943, in Buffalo NY, the daughter of the late Leland and Frances (Mayer) Lyons. She graduated from Scarsdale High School and later received a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Lawrence University. It was at St. Lawrence that she met her beloved husband of 59 years, Richard (Dick) Metcalf. They married in Scarsdale NY and made their home in Canton NY with a short period of time living in Morgantown, West Virginia.

Kathy worked in the admissions office at St. Lawrence and then had a 25-year career as a nursery school teacher where she had the pleasure of teaching a great number of Canton’s children. She was involved in many local charities including the CPH Foundation Guild. Kathy loved to travel, visiting many countries in her lifetime. She was an avid skier who also enjoyed outdoor activities such as kayaking, fishing, and gardening. She was an accomplished artist and was an enthusiastic supporter of the performing arts.
In addition, Kathy had passions for painting, knitting, quilting, pottery and jewelry making, and was an avid Mahjong player. She was always ready for a new adventure.

Kathy is survived by her husband, Dick; a daughter, Cara (Kenneth) Polk; a son, Matthew (Meg) Metcalf and six grandchildren, Mitchell, Jordan and Leah Polk and Abigail, Katharine, and Elizabeth Metcalf.
