Joanne M. Shoen, 72, Massena

MASSENA -- Joanne M. Shoen, age 72, passed away on May 15, 2024, at the Massena Rehab & Nursing Facility.

Arrangements are under the care of the Phillips Memorial Home, in Massena.

Per Joanne’s wishes there will be no calling hours or funeral services.

A graveside service will be June in Calvary Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow at a later date.

Born on April 16, 1952, in Massena the daughter of Roy and Dorothy (Lytle) Sharlow.

She attended Massena Central School. On November 6, 1976, she married Wayne Shoen at St. Mary’s Church in Massena. He predeceased her on May 10, 1991.

After graduating from cosmetology school she opened a shop on East Orvis Street in Massena with a friend Carol Pigeon.

She loved helping others and also worked at the Boys Home in Norwood in the late 80’s. Joanne also she enjoyed motorcycles and riding as much as she could with her late husband. Prior to that she worked at the Levi Factory in Cornwall.

Joanne was an amazing mother and friend. She will be missed by all that had the opportunity to know her best.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Joline Miller and son in-law, Allen Miller of Massena, her brothers, Ronald and wife, Diana of Massena, Jerry and wife, Donna of Massena, niece, Lisa and Carl Mason, a nephew, Mark and companion, Amy Hamilton of Massena, great nieces, Abbey, Samantha, Sofia, and a great nephew, Alex.

Joanne was a talented artist who loved drawing, painting and to refurbish old ceramics. She was an avid animal lover who also loved camping and been in the great outdoors.
