Jean Durant, 99, Bombay

BOMBAY -- Jean Durant, 99, of Bombay, N.Y., passed away on June 21, 2024, at the UVM Medical Center in Burlington, Vt.

Born on March 28, 1925, in Bombay, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Agnes Quesnelle Rouselle.

On December 27, 1943, she was wed to the late Donald J. Durant in St. Joseph’s Church in Bombay.

Jean was a homemaker and helped her husband with all aspects of running the family farm.

She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church in Massena, and was a lifelong member of the St. Joseph’s Altar & Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Franklin County Election Board and an original member of the Bombay Food Pantry.

Jean is survived by her sons, Daniel (Debbie) Durant of West Des Moines, Iowa, Patrick Durant of Bombay, her daughter, Peggy (Matt) Burns of Dunedin, Florida; sister, Pat Niles of Bombay; eleven grandchildren, eighteen great grand children and three great-great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her children, Mary Czajak, James Durant and Robert Durant; and her siblings, Millie Gravel, Hazel Johnson, Shirley Clark and James Rouselle.

Calling hours will be held from 9-11a.m. on Wednesday, June 26 at Cappiello-McKenzie & Cosgrove Funeral Home in Fort Covington, N.Y.

A prayer service will take place at 11 in the funeral home, with burial to follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Bombay.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bombay Food Pantry or Bombay Fire & Rescue Dept.

Arrangements are under the care of the Cappiello-McKenzie & Cosgrove Funeral Home in Fort Covington.
