POTSDAM — After a hiatus, Jazzercise is back in Potsdam, and it’s moving to a new location at Bjorn Fitness in the Market Square Mall. The new series of in-person classes will begin on April 22.
Classes will be held twice a week at 22 Depot St. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4:15 p.m., with an additional Saturday morning session at 8 a.m.
“Bjorn fitness is a good fit for Jazzercise because it includes an open floor area that’s perfect for the dance aspect that’s at the core of every Jazzercise class,” said instructor Rae Mackey.
Bjorn Fitness, which opened in 2022, was founded by certified personal trainer Alexander Kodama.
“When I reached out to Al about bringing back Jazzercise classes, he was all in,” said Mackey.
This reopening follows the retirement of the program’s previous owner, who taught virtual Jazzercise classes for two and a half years during the pandemic shutdown. After 18 years of teaching, Mackey recertified in March 2025 to bring back in-person classes. Mackey and former instructor and friend Amy Dougan attended the 55th anniversary celebration of Jazzercise in Dallas, Texas, last December. “
After returning from that trip, I knew it was time to bring the excitement of in-person Jazzercise classes back to our community,” Mackey said.
To celebrate the return of group fitness in the area, a grand opening event will be held at Bjorn Fitness after the first few weeks of classes.
“Jazzercise is open to people of all shapes, sizes, and fitness levels, offering a fun and inclusive way to get moving,” Mackey said
