WEST POTSDAM – A fire in West Potsdam “snuffed” itself out, according to Potsdam Fire Driver Mark Maroney.

Maroney said on the department’s website that firefighters responded Thursday, June 13 at 9:26 p.m., along with West Potsdam Fire, Potsdam Rescue, and County Car 10 to 1078 County Route 35 for a reported fully engulfed house fire.

Potsdam Fire was dispatched for a tanker to respond along with manpower.

Maroney said Canton Fire was also requested for mutual aid for engine, tanker, and manpower. Additionally, Hannawa Falls Fire was requested to respond for draft on the French Road and engine and manpower to the scene.

Firefighters used self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) to make entry to the house as there was smoke but with no flames visible.

Thermal imaging cameras found the area where the fire originated, but it appeared it had "snuffed" itself out, Maroney said. A positive pressure fan was used to ventilate the structure.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the St. Lawrence County Fire Investigation Team.

Potsdam Rescue provided standby during the fire. Potsdam Fire was in service at 10:39 a.m.
