COLTON – Amateur historian Mary Jane Watson will be presenting a history of Higley Flow at the Friends of Higley Flow’s Fall Festival on Sept. 14 at noon.
The history begins with log jams at Higley Falls, the construction of the dam and powerhouse in 1915, the floating islands and their destruction during WWII, development of seasonal camps to year round houses, the draining of Higley Flow for repairs at dam and powerhouse, formation of Higley Flow State Park, and more.
There will be slides of a map of the area before the dam construction and with overlay showing the difference.
There will be an interpretive paddle of Stump Bay and the Black Lagoon following the presentation for those interested in bringing their boats.
This will start following the presentation at approximately 1:15-1:30 p.m.
Big Spoon’s food truck will be on site for those wanting to grab a bite.
This is a fund raiser for the Friends of HFSP. A $20 donation is requested for adults, $10 For teens, under 12 free, or $40 for family.
