GOUVERNEUR — A heating pad is to blame for a fire in Gouverneur Monday afternoon at a local apartment building, according to Gouverneur Fire Department officials.
The blaze was reported at 1:51 p.m., according to the department’s Facebook page.
Gouverneur police, who arrived on scene first, confirmed the blaze took place on Sleepy Hollow Road.
Officers used a fire extinguisher to put the fire out.
Smoke was reportedly filling the apartment of the second-floor apartment building, officials said.
Crews removed the mattress and ventilated the building, fire officials said.
The fire was allegedly caused by a heating pad that was left on.
