A heat advisory is in effect through 8 p.m. Thursday in St. Lawrence County with heat index values as high as 105 possible, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
There will be a chance of a thunderstorm, mainly before noon, NWS says. Highs will reach into the low to mid-90s. Overnight lows will only be around 73.
Highs on Thursday will reach near 88 with heat index values around 92.
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose
fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning
or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and
heat stroke.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and
Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in
shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat
should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an
emergency! Call 911.
Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car
interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
Indoor temperatures may continue to rise after peak heating hours in
poorly ventilated spaces. Those without air conditioning should
consider the potential for lingering health impacts while indoors
late in the day.
