Graveside Services for Leo & Nora Lawton, Lisbon

LISBON -- Leo & Nora (Compo) Lawton. A joint graveside service and interment will be held on August 3, 2024, at 1:00 PM at the Flackville Cemetery, located on the Cemetery Road in Ogdensburg, NY.

Nora passed away peacefully at home on April 19, 2016. Leo passed away peacefully at home on February 2, 2023.

They are survived by their children: Wayne (Vivian) Lawton of Richmond, OH, Wanda (Craig) Speranzi of Jacksonville, FL, Carl Lawton of Lisbon, and Donna Royce of Ogdensburg; nine grandchildren: Ryan Lawton, Alan Lawton, Saleena (Trevor) Dusch, Matthew Lawton, Christopher (Sarah-Beth Leeper) Dandro, Amber Alonzo, Katie (Alex) Ampelas, Megan Royce, & Alexander (Patchara) Royce; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, & cousins. Also, surviving Leo are his sisters: Lori (Rick) Rienhardt and Rosalee (Charles) Bloss. Surviving Nora is a sister, Karen (Ronald) Murray. Grandson Nicholas Lacroix passed away on March 20, 2021.

Nora was born on August 24, 1939, in Stockholm NY. She was the daughter of the late Julius & Joyce (Newton) Compo. She attended Ogdensburg Free Academy (OFA).

Nora loved her children and grandchildren dearly and dedicated her life to raising them. She also loved her flower gardens and watching the birds and wildlife.

Leo was born on July 19, 1938, in Ogdensburg, NY. He was the son of the late Lloyd & Alice (Halladay) Lawton. He graduated Lisbon Central School before entering the Navy at the age of 17, where he went on to become the youngest person ever to achieve the rank of Chief Petty Officer at the time.

Leo was also an alumnus of SUNY Canton, which he attended after retiring from Morning Star Homes. He was the Lawton family historian and genealogist, a brilliant writer, and in his retirement became interested in photography.

On December 20, 1958, Leo and Nora were married in Ogdensburg.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Leo & Nora’s memory to the St. Lawrence County Center for History & Culture, formerly the St. Lawrence County Historical Association, at 3 East Main St., Canton, NY 13617.
