Gordon Berlin Batson, 91, Potsdam

POTSDAM – Gordon Berlin Batson, 91, a longtime resident of Potsdam, passed away Friday morning, May 24, 2024 at Menorah Park of Central New York in Syracuse.

Gordon was born on October 3, 1932 in Addison, Maine, the son of the late Andrew and Maud (Parry) Batson. He graduated high school in South Portland, Maine. Gordon continued his education at the University of Maine Orono, achieving both Bachelors and Masters Degrees. He was awarded his PhD in Structural Engineering from Carnegie-Mellon in 1961. He proudly served his country in the US Army from 1956 until his honorable discharge in 1958.

Gordon worked his career at Clarkson University, where he retired as Professor Emeritus in 1997. In his younger years, he enjoyed sailing and vacationing on the coast of Maine, cross-country skiing, traveling, and was an avid reader.

Gordon is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Katharine (Wragg), whom he married on September 1, 1961; his three sons, Andrew Batson of Hamilton, New York; Nathan Batson and his wife, Jennifer of Boise, Idaho; and Alex Batson and his wife, Deborah Bellomo of Syracuse; and his grandsons, Sean and Ryan Batson. Katharine Batson resides at Menorah Park of Central New York.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Edwin Batson.

Arrangements are under the care and guidance of the Donaldson-Seymour Funeral Home, 4 Cedar Street, Potsdam, where friends may call on Friday May 3, 2024 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. A Graveside service will follow the visitation at Bayside Cemetery, Potsdam.
