Gloria F. Andrews, 98, Fowler

FOWLER – Gloria F. Andrews, age 98, of Fowler, passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at United Helpers Nursing Home in Canton, NY.

Calling hours will be held at French Funeral Home in Gouverneur on Monday, September 16, 2024 from 11:00-1:00. Her funeral service will immediately follow at the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. followed by burial in Hailesboro Cemetery.

Gloria was born on February 1, 1926 in Groveton, NH to the late Ernest Patton Sr. and Ruth (Hope) Patton. She graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1944 and married Robert “Bob” G. Andrews on May 5, 1951 at the Gouverneur United Methodist parsonage officiated by Rev. Wood with attendants, Ernest and Alice (Sterling) Patton. Bob passed away on October 17, 2004.

Gloria has lived in Fowler for most of her life and served as the Town of Fowler Tax Collector for 31 years at her home. She and Bob owned and operated the farm on Hull Road for 28 years before selling to their son, Robert.

Previously, Gloria worked for the Telephone Company and then at the J.J. Newberry Store in Gouverneur while attending school, then the A&P for 7 years and the Big “M” Market. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, canning, cooking and baking. She also enjoyed bowling, playing cards and having card parties, and taking trips.

She is survived by two children, Barbara Gaebel and her husband, Michael of Fowler and Robert Andrews Jr. and his wife, Diane of Fowler, 4 granddaughters, Michelle and Chris, Jessie and Shannon, Melissa and Rich, and Bobbie and Frank, five great-grandchildren, Margo, Claire and Sam Pritting, Freddie and Edie Adkins and Cecily Brooking, a sister-in-law, Genevieve “Jenny” Patton of Florida, and many nieces and nephews.

Gloria is predeceased by her husband, Robert Andrews, a son, Terry Andrews, a sister, Geraldine “Jerry” Donaldson, her brothers, Ernest “Sonny” and his wife Alice Patton and William Patton, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Tom and Carol.
