Elizabeth A. Halpen, 83, Ogdensburg

OGDENSBURG -- Funeral Services for Elizabeth A. Halpen, 83, of Ogdensburg will be held on Friday, September 6th, 2024, at 3 p.m. at Frary Funeral Home, with Rev. Walter Smith officiating.

A visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of the service and also on Thursday, September 5th, 2024, from 1-3 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Halpen died at her home on Saturday August 31, 2024, surrounded by her family and under the care of Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.

Arrangements are under the direction of Frary Funeral Home.

Elizabeth A. Halpen was born January 17, 1941 in Ogdensburg, NY.

She was the daughter of the late Michael and Anna Mae (Snow) Basta.

She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy, the class of 1958.

Prior to her marriage she was employed with General Electric in Syracuse, NY.

She married James R. Halpen on January 17, 1969. They lived in Seattle, Washington and Brunswick, Maine while Mr. Halpen completed his tours of duty with the U.S. Navy.

In 1974 they returned to the Ogdensburg area and Ms. Halpen was employed with Corning, Inc. in Canton for 15 years. She was later employed with the SLC Summer Youth Program and Experience Works as an Employment Counselor.

She enjoyed traveling, gardening and summers on the St. Lawrence River.

Surviving besides her husband is a sister, Mary LeClair of Cape Cod; two brothers, Edward M. Basta, Syracuse and Joseph M. Basta and his wife, Jane of Ogdensburg and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by one brother; Samuel M. Basta in 1997.
