David Steven Thompson, 60, Canton

CANTON -- David Steven Thompson, 60, a life-long North Country native, passed away June 12, 2024, at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY.

David was not alone. He was surrounded by his husband, Arjay Divinagracia, his sister, Judith T. Liscum, his cousin, Jennifer Staats, and his pastor, Brett Johnson of the Canton United Methodist Church, Canton, NY.

David was born September 19, 1963, the youngest son of the late D. Jean Thompson and Stanley I. Thompson at the EJ Noble Hospital, across Route 11 from the family farm. Besides his parents, a brother Rick E. predeceased him.

He is survived by his spouse, Arjay Divinagracia, his sister, Judith T. Liscum, and brother, Lawrence E. Thompson, all of Canton, NY. Another surviving brother, Dan W. Thompson, lives in Foxboro, MA. David has several close cousins in the Albany, NY region, and more in the New England area; plus, nieces and nephews scattered throughout different states.

David attended Canton Central School for all grades K-12. He was a very conscientious student and took part in a variety of activities, especially those where he could practice his beautiful tenor voice.

He was in chorus most high school years, and took part in several high school musicals. Along those lines, David joined Canton United Methodist Church choir and sang with them until a month before his untimely death.

He was also asked to take on the job of church treasurer at CUMC and performed diligently for 24 years.

Following graduation from Canton Central School in 1981, David attended SUNY Potsdam for the next four years, graduating Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Science and Mathematics.

In 1985, David joined his brother Dan in Plano, TX, working at Texas Instruments.

For the past 30+ years, David has worked for St. Lawrence County as a Senior Programmer/Analyst, and just recently he started planning for retirement.

David and Arjay were joined in marriage on December 10, 2016. Their favorite place to visit on summer weekends was their camp at Upper Saranac Lake. Plus, a trip to the Philippines in 2022 was a wonderful new experience.

A calling hour will be held at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at the Canton United Methodist Church.

The funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM.

The burial of David’s ashes will take place at a later date.
