POTSDAM – Clarkson University students will spend the weekend serving the local communities of Canton, Potsdam and Ogdensburg in recognition of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Clarkson’s 11th Annual MLK Day of Service volunteerism will take place Friday and Saturday across the North Country with several on-and off-campus organizations.

Clarkson students will be participating in the following community service activities:

  • Office of the Aging Potsdam: game/activity Hour, help service meals and help with meal prep bags
  • Seaway Valley Prevention Council Ogdensburg: painting and cleaning project
  • United Helpers Canton: games with residents
  • Deep Root Center Canton: deep clean of the facility, organizing reading books
  • Victims Assistance Center Canton: delivering red sand to local community locations for art installation
  • Potsdam Public Library: cleaning and polishing windows

On Campus, there will be a chocolate sale Friday and Saturday. All proceeds will go to benefit the Potsdam Humane Society

On Jan. 21 students will also be working with the Adirondack Mountain Club on red sandstone sign maintenance.

Clarkson has been participating as community service partners for MLK Day of Service since 2013. Those that participate will receive a MLK Day of Service Button, and service hours.
