Carol Anne Pelkey, 83, Massena

MASSENA -- Carol Anne Pelkey, 83, of Elgin Ave, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2024, at Adirondack Medical Center, Saranac Lake after a lengthy illness.

Carol was born July 24, 1940, in Bombay, the daughter of the late Patrick C. and Helen E. (McElwain) Pelkey.

She first attended Sacred Heart School before attending Norwood-Norfolk Central School where she graduated in 1958.

She moved to Michigan in 1962 working for the State of Michigan Library System for many years. She later started working for the Michigan Guaranty Agency, retiring as the Assistant to the Director.

Following her retirement, Carol moved back to Massena in 2008.

Carol was an artist and greatly enjoyed painting, playing video games, and playing the piano.

She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Chur, where she was a member of the Small Bass Prayer Group, St. Mary’s Outreach Committee and Bereavement Committee, and volunteered for the Massena Free Clinic.

Carol is survived by her siblings, Vernon Pelkey of Azle, Texas, Juanita McPherson of Massena, Terrance and Lily Pelkey of Victorville, California, Blaine and Linda Pelkey of Edmonds, Washington, Virginia and Robert Barringer of Manchester, New Hampshire, and Stephen and Jennifer Pelkey of Brasher Falls; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Carol was predeceased by a sister, Penelope O’Neil and a brother, Walter Pelkey.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on July 8, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Massena.

Her family will receive friends prior to the mass beginning at 10:00 AM.

Burial will follow in Visitation Cemetery, Norfolk.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may consider memorial contributions to St. Peter’s Parish Outreach Ministry for the Gabriel Project or the Massena Humane Society.
