CANTON — The Canton Recreation and village police departments are working together to present a summer bicycle safety program for children of all ages.
The free program will be offered on Wednesday, July 14, and Wednesday, July 28, both from 9 to 11 a.m. in the Canton Pavilion. Children should bring their own bikes, if possible; helmets are mandatory for all bike riders.
Canton police officer and former Canton Central School school resource officer Ashley Coffey will lead the program along with officers from the St. Lawrence University Safety & Security Department.
They will teach proper bike helmet fitting, hand signals while riding in traffic, motor vehicle traffic considerations while riding, and a host of other topics related to safe bicycle riding.
The St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Department will also have a deputy on site to provide each child participant with a Safe Child ID card.
