ROSSIE — A Canton man has been charged after a shooting in Rossie which left a female victim with a serious bullet wound in the neck, reports the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office.

This morning at approximately 1:42 a.m., St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a reported domestic incident at 49 South Woods Road in Rossie.

Upon their arrival, it was determined that a female victim had been shot in the neck during the reported domestic incident.

The female victim sustained serious injuries and was transported by Medivac to Upstate Hospital in Syracuse for treatment.

Sheriff detectives have charged Shawn G. Sheridan, 33, of 8 Mechanic Street, Canton in connection with the incident.

Sheridan is charged with first-degree assault and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class c felony.

He was arraigned in Rossie town court and held with no bail.

He will be ordered to return to court at a later date.

This investigation is ongoing and further charges are pending, the sheriff’s office said.

Over the initial course of this incident, Deputy Sheriff Matthew Merria took courageous action by securing Sheridan, who was armed with a long gun and a knife, by himself, reports the sheriff’s office.

Deputy Merria had an intern riding with him at the time of this call, and they were both able to render aid to the female victim until rescue could respond to the scene.

The victim, at the time of this release, is in stable condition at Upstate Hospital.

St. Lawrence County Sheriff Deputies were assisted by the New York State Police and the St. Lawrence County District Attorney’s Office.
