Boil Water Advisory in effect for 500 & 600 Blocks of Morris Street, 600 Block of Jay Street for 2-3 days

OGDENSBURG – The City of Ogdensburg Department of Public Works has issued a precautionary boil water advisory effective today, Oct. 20, and continuing at least two to three days with specific impacts for all residents and businesses located within the 500 and 600 blocks of Morris Street and the 600 block of Jay Street.
If you are living or working in these specific blocks, you must bring all tap water to a rolling boil for at least one full minute and let it cool completely before using. Alternatively, use commercially bottled water certified by the New York State Department of Health.
You must use boiled or bottled water for the following activities:
• Drinking water and making ice

• Brushing teeth
• Washing dishes
• Preparing food or baby formula
The advisory was put in place as a standard precautionary measure due to localized infrastructure work or a sudden drop in water system pressure. When pressure drops, it increases the risk that untreated groundwater or harmful microbes could inadvertently find their way into the water lines.
Once the DPW finishes the necessary repairs and fully restores water service, crews will begin collecting bacteriological samples.
New York State health laws, the water must pass two consecutive days of negative testing before the water can be declared safe again.
You should expect this advisory to remain active for at least 2 to 3 days. Local officials will distribute a rescind notice or alert local news once the testing is complete and the water is cleared for normal use.
For direct inquiries or to check if a specific address is included, you can contact the City of Ogdensburg Filtration Department at (315) 393-0490 or the DPW at (315) 393-2300.
