CANTON -- A 24-year-old man missing since Jan. 10 has been found deceased.
Canton Police Chief James Santimaw confirmed Wednesday afternoon that the body of Abiu Velasquez was found this morning in a ditch on County Route 27 just past the Sykes Road in the Town of Canton.
A section of County Route 27 was closed to traffic as Canton police and St. Lawrence County Sheriff's deputies conducted an investigation at the scene. The road is now open to traffic.
St. Lawrence County Coronor Steve Cary was at the scene.
The multi-agency search led to the discovery of Velasquez, who was found deceased near the County Route 27 and Sykes Road intersection in the Town of Canton, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Police say CR 27 was closed for a short time but is now open.
Sheriff's Deputies were assisted on scene by the Canton Police Department, New York State DEC Forest Rangers, St. Lawrence County Probation Department and Canton Fire Department.
The investigation is ongoing.
