POTSDAM -- Blevins Motors Inc. of Potsdam, 6691 State Highway 56, recently celebrated their 55th anniversary.
Blevins Motors in Potsdam was established by Leland & Rita Blevins in 1969.
It was first located on Route 11 coming into Potsdam for a brief time then to its current building on Route 56.
Leland acquired his first floor plan (to purchase new cars) for $50,000 from St. Lawrence National Bank, known as Community Bank.
All four of Leland and Rita’s boys worked for the dealership and in 1979, Paul and Duane purchased the business from Leland. The Chrysler franchise was purchased in 1983 from Ed Close, and Jeep was added in 1996.
David and Lynn own dealerships in Ogdensburg & Gouverneur.
John is the current owner of Blevins Motors, purchased from his father Paul and Uncle Duane in 2007.
John owns both dealerships in Potsdam and Massena, and well as two RV stores, where they sell & rent RVs and boats.
In 55 years, the Blevins family has seen lots of changes in the car business, such as the introduction of air bags, introduction of the minivan and the introduction of electric vehicles. Blevins continues to look forward to adapting to changes in the industry to best serve their customers.
