CANTON – Calling all  artists, bakers, crafters, DIYers, gardeners, gatherers,  herbalists, homesteaders, hunters, woodworkers and makers of all kinds.

On Sunday, Oct. 18, the public is invited to the 16th annual Swap it! Community Trading Event held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at littleGrasse Foodworks, a community farm in Canton. The farm designed this joyful gathering for people in northern New York to collectively share their skills, passions, and surplus with others. The only requirement is to bring something that you made or grew or created to swap with fellow participants.

All are welcome to participate in this one-of-a-kind community event. There are no sales or money exchange allowed, just voluntary trading of your goods with others who have items that you like.

The event is free to participate, attendees can make a voluntary donation to support farm programming. Here’s examples of items that past attendees have brought to trade: food and farm products such as baked, canned, fermented, frozen items, fiber, ceramics, woodworking, paintings, art, herbal medicine, seeds, plant cuttings, root stock, plants, and much more.

Here’s how to participate in the swap. RSVP at https://bit.ly/lgfswap. Bring only items that you grew, made or created. Each household brings as few or as many items as they choose. Label all food products, with item name and date made. The hosts request that participants leave their pets at home. On event day, follow signs for off street parking.

People arrive by 1:15pm, and set up their goods on tables until 1:30pm. At 1:30pm, there is a brief welcome introduction message and then the trading begins! Individuals approach others whose goods they like and propose a barter. The mood is festive and mingling and conversation are encouraged.

The event hosts are Bob Washo and M. Flip Filippi, co-owners of littleGrasse Community Farm. The farm raises vegetables, herbs and flowers for their Free Choice Full Season Share and enjoys hosting events to connect the community around agriculture, rural living and self-sufficiency. The farm is located 1 mile from Canton village.
