Allen B. Kingsley, 87, Potsdam

POTSDAM – Allen B. Kingsley, 87, a longtime resident of the South Canton Road, passed away Thursday evening, February 29, 2024 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital after a brief illness.

Al was born on November 9, 1936 in Tupper Lake, the son of the late Forest “Burr” and Bernice (Cyrus) Kingsley. He attended Norfolk schools, graduating from Norwood-Norfolk High School in 1955. Following graduation, he entered the United States Navy, proudly serving his country until his honorable discharge in 1959. A marriage to Nancy Phippen blessed him with 3 children prior to their divorce. On December 17, 1982, he married Sandra Scott Cutler in Potsdam.

Following his discharge from the Navy, Al worked for a time at Reynolds Metals before going to work at UPS in Potsdam, where he retired as a package car driver after 30 years of service. He and his late brother also raised and raced Standard Bred Horses for many years. He was member of the Potsdam Elks Lodge, Diamond Sportsmen Club, and life member of Stag Hunting Club. Al loved the outdoors and all the activities it involved. He especially enjoyed hunting, trapping, ATV and UTV riding, and cutting wood. Additionally, he loved a good game of cards, dancing, and watching all sports.

Al is survived by his loving wife, Sandy; his children and their spouses, Scott and Doreen Kingsley of Manlius, Kevin and Becky Kingsley of Norwood, Cynthia and John Lundin of North Canton, OH, and Janelle Cutler (Brian) Robert of Palmyra; his grandchildren, Tyler, Meghan, Mackenzie, Maddison, Kyle, Kaileigh, Karissa, Tommy, Taylor, Brianna, and Alyssa; his great grandchildren, Madelyn, Oliver, and Will; his sisters, Cheryl Hazen and Norma Burns, both of Raymondville; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Charles “Everett” Kingsley and two sisters, Jean Farnsworth and Audrey Bicknell.

Arrangements are under the care and guidance of the Donaldson-Seymour Funeral Home, Potsdam, however there will be no services. Burial will be held privately in Bayside Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, or Hope Lodge in Burlington.
