Alice Marie Greenwood, 79, Canton

CANTON - It is with saddened hearts to announce the passing of Alice Marie Greenwood, 79, of Canton. Alice passed away peacefully at home on July 16th with her family by her side after a long battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis.
Alice was born on a warm Wednesday, June 20, 1945 to the late Albert Anson and Laura Santimaw.
Alice is survived by her love of 39 years, Darren Greenwood. Her first marriage to Charles Brabaw resulted in 4 beautiful daughters that survive her, Allison (Walt), Julia (Jody), Dawn (Bob), and Barbara (Mark). Also survived by siblings Goldie, LauraLee, Albert, Delbert and Lisa.
Alice is a grandmother to 10 grandchildren Alicia, Leslie, Kearstyn, Robert, Chelsea, Lilly, Electa, Tanner, Noah, and Kailani and 9 great grandchildren.
Alice was predeceased by both of her parents, siblings Mary (her best friend), Phillip, and Fred.
Alice worked for United Helpers for 20 years, following her career at United Helpers she worked as a Private Home Health Assistant for many years.
On Alice’s off time you could find her in the earlier years with her granddaughter Chelsea running the roads, going to their friends, getting ice cream, and playing “chicken” while driving (that was not shared much). Alice also LOvED going to Syracuse with sister Mary (Alice loved bossing her around) daughter Dawn, and granddaughter Chelsea to meet sister Goldie for “weekend with the girls”.
In the most recent years she enjoyed spending time at her cousin John’s with her husband, and fetching water from a natural spring on the Fordam Hill road. Alice loved Wednesday nights when her family would come to visit especially her 10th and last grandchild Kailani, who grandma loved to hold and feed her ice cream.
A special thank you to Barb Kaplan at Hospice for understanding the family and her granddaughter, Chelsea for spending her last moments together keeping her calm as can be.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 19, 2024 at 2:30 pm at the O’Leary Funeral Home, Canton. Calling hour will be held Friday also from 12:00 pm until the time of the service.
