Two remaining finalists for St. Regis Falls superintendent position; Potsdam man in the running

ST. REGIS FALLS – Two finalists have been chosen by the St. Regis Falls Central School District Board of Education to fill the role of Superintendent of Schools: Reginald McDonald Jr. and Anne Young.

These two candidates will meet with the school board on July 19 for a second round of interviews, said a press release from the school district.

Reginald McDonald, a Potsdam resident, holds three master’s degrees and currently works as director of pupil personnel services at the Malone Central School District.

Before that, he served as director of special education at Champlain Valley Educational Services, and he has nearly two decades in special education counselor and supervisor roles with St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES.

Anne Young, who lives in Gloversville, recently completed a doctorate in educational leadership.

She also has experience as director of curriculum/instruction for Middleburgh Central School District, program coordinator and support specialist at a school district in North Carolina, and six years serving as elementary school principal in central New York school districts.

“In a small, tight-knit community like ours, the school district leader plays an important role in the community,” said school board President Thomas O’Bryan. “Either of these candidates would be an excellent addition to our district. The board is looking forward to hearing more about their visions for the future of our school next week.”

Nine people submitted complete applications for the job by the deadline, June 25. On June 30, the school board chose four applicants to move forward, and those four met on Monday with constituent groups representing staff, students, parents, the community, and the Board of Education.

Current Superintendent Timothy Seymour, who has taken a job leading the Lake Placid Central School District, will work his last day for the St. Regis CSD this Friday, but he has committed to helping the district transition as the board finds a new person for his role.

Franklin-Essex-Hamilton BOCES District Superintendent Dale Breault Jr., who is guiding the superintendent search, will sit in as interim superintendent until a new superintendent can be hired.

The school board hopes to have someone in the position as close to the start of the school year as possible, the district press release said.
