CORRECTION - An earlier version of this story said the Police Conference of New York includes the Ogdensburg City PBA and PSU, however Ogdensburg police union members say this is not true and they have not endorsed any candidates at this time. North Country This Week regrets this error.

A police union that representsis endorsing Elise Stefanik, R-Schuylerville, for re-election to Congress.

The Police Conference of New York (PCNY) includes Ogdensburg City Police’s PBA and PSU, along with PBAs representing New York State Police and New York Park Police.

“I am honored to be endorsed by the Police Conference of New York,” Stefanik said in a prepared statement from her re-election campaign. “Right now in our country, we are seeing violent criminals targeting our law enforcement officers and Far-Left Democrats calling to defund our police departments. At this critical time, we should be increasing our support for our law enforcement. I support increasing funding for training and increasing our resources for our law enforcement so that they can do their jobs safely.

“In New York’s 21st district, there is only one candidate who supports our law enforcement: my opponent has made it abundantly clear that she would rather side with looters, rioters and violent criminals than our brave police officers. I am proud to stand up for the dedicated men and women who help keep law and order in our great nation, and I will continue my work to Back the Blue.”

“The Police Conference of New York is proud to endorse Congresswoman Stefanik for her re-election bid this year,” said Richard Wells, president of the Police Conference of New York, said in a prepared statement. “With vicious attacks on our law enforcement occurring throughout the country and calls to defund the police rising up throughout New York, this election couldn’t be more important. Elise is the only candidate in her race to stand up for police officers and Back the Blue during this critical time. Unlike her Far-Left opponent, we know that Elise will always fight to make sure that our law enforcement officers have the resources and support they need to keep our communities safe."
