Police charge accused murderer Adam Smith with second murder in Gouverneur homicide

CANTON — Adam W. Smith, 46, who stands accused of murdering William Freeman on March 2 in the town of Rossie, has also been charged with second-degree murder in the homicide of Ronald E. Durham.

St. Lawrence County District Attorney Gary Pasqua made the announcement on March 10, thanking both the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office and State Police for their efforts in a successful collaboration that led to Smith’s arrest in both cases.

The public is urged to contact either of these agencies with any information relevant to the ongoing homicide investigations concerning the deaths of William Freeman or Ronald Durham. The State Police Canton Barracks can be contacted at (315) 379-0012, and the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office can be contacted at (315) 379-2222.

According to a press release, Smith was arraigned in Gouverneur Court and remanded without bail to the St. Lawrence County Correctional facility.
