New superintendent tentatively accepts position with St. Regis Falls Central School

ST. REGIS FALLS – The St. Regis Falls Central School District has a new potential superintendent of schools.

Nicole Eschler, of Brooktondale, has tentatively accepted the position pending negotiations.

The St. Regis Falls CSD Board of Education offered the position to Eschler after negotiations fell through with Tisha White, a Dickinson Center resident and school counselor at Potsdam Central School. White was offered the position in October, but the two parties weren’t able to come to an agreement on contract issues.

“We are so lucky to have had multiple highly qualified and talented candidates for this position,” said school board President Matt Goodrow. “Besides having a depth of leadership experience, Dr. Eschler also has worked in this area and knows the schools of the region.”

Currently an executive regional leader at Tompkins-Seneca-Tioga BOCES in Ithaca, Eschler worked as an educational consultant from 2010 to 2018, and she has held leadership positions at Queensbury Union Free School District, Washington-Saratoga-Warren-Hamilton-Essex BOCES and Northville Central School District. Locally, she worked with Franklin-Essex-Hamilton BOCES as well as two other BOCES from 1995 to 2002 on standards implementation and technology integration.

Eschler has a Doctor of Education from Sage Graduate School, an administration certificate from SUNY Plattsburgh, a master’s degree from SUNY Albany and a bachelor’s from SUNY Potsdam.

Eleven people applied for the position in August and September, and the school board and stakeholder groups interviewed three candidates at an Oct. 13 meeting: White, Eschler and Kathleen Cruikshank of Hannawa Falls. White was offered the job and negotiations began shortly after that. Negotiations officially ended on Thursday.

The school board plans to keep staff, families and the community updates as the situation progresses.
