MASSENA – Village officials have chosen the next superintendent of public works.

With the pending retirement of longtime superintendent Hassan Fayad in January, officials began the search months ago.

In the process, four candidates were interviewed for the position but one stood out from the rest.

Marty Miller, Canton village superintendent of public works has been hired for the position and will begin in January.

“We are kind of poaching from Canton, which isn’t ideal, but it kind of is what it is. Marty worked for Massena and worked on the town hall upgrades and also worked as the supervisor on the Alcoa bridge project years ago,” Mayor Greg Paquin said.

Deputy Mayor Matt Lebire echoed the sentiments, saying Miller was the clear choice in the end.

With an experienced superintendent coming onboard who is familiar with the village and it’s various projects, officials expect a smooth transition for the village and department of public works.
