MASSENA -- The town and village of Massena plan to extend their state of emergency declaration until May 15 at noon.
The town and village originally declared a state of emergency on March 18 at 11 a.m. due to the public health emergency caused by world-wide outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
Village Mayor Timmy J. Currier and Town Supervisor Steve O'Shaughnessy cited the authority given under Section 24 of the New York State Executive Law, "to preserve the public safety and hereby render all required and available assistance vital to the security, well-being, and health of the citizens of this Municipality" as authority to extend the state of emergency order.
In an announcement Friday, the municipal leaders directed all departments and agencies of village and town of Massena to take whatever steps necessary to protect life and property, public infrastructure, and provide such emergency assistance deemed necessary.
