MASSENA -- Town officials expect a project to overhaul the Massena Intake will begin in June and conclude this year.
Town Supervisor Steve O’Shaughnessy discussed the project, which will be funded and carried out by the New York Power Authority, during a Wednesday, May 6 Town Council special meeting. It was streamed online via Facebook Live.
“It’s going to be quite a jewel for the Massena-Louisville community. It’s going to have two pavilions,” the supervisor said. “Also they’re going to increase the boat ramps … parking is going to be expanded. The larger pavilion will have a sound system. Both areas will have a cooking area people will be able to utilize, and the bathrooms.”
He added that the Town of Louisville will run potable water to the site.
“The intake work itself, the deck work, the railing work and the roadway is supposed to be done … before August,” he said.
The Local Government Task Force negotiated the deal for NYPA to pay for projects along the St. Lawrence River on NYPA property in Massena, Louisville and Waddington. The Massena and Madrid-Waddington Central School Districts are also part of the task force.
