POTSDAM -- In the wake of COVID-19, virtually every aspect of life has been affected, including death and how to process it.
Social distancing has had an impact on every end of life ritual from spending time with a loved one when their days grow short, to visitation and calling hours, funeral services and burials.
Like many services, funeral directors are required to abide by new guidelines set forth by state health departments and the CDC.
Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley offered a virtual presentation - The Coffin Club, featuring an opportunity for virtual attendees to pose questions to local funeral director, Chad Green of Donaldson-Seymour Funeral Home.
The COVID-19 version of Coffin Club is available to watch online at the Hospice web page at www.hospiceslv.org.
Previously, this workshop was made popular by the many ordinary and not so ordinary questions about funerals.
Today, with drastic changes taking place, Hospice feels it is important to help facilitate an honest conversation on the challenges funeral directors and those who are entrusted with making final arrangements face during the current health crisis.
Some topics addressed are limitations on who may attend visitation and calling hours, options for conducting funeral services and burial, and ideas to properly honor your loved one in light of certain restrictions.
In addition to addressing funeral services during this time, Green answered other interesting questions that were posed.
