MASSENA -- Due to low water levels, the weigh-in for the Fishing League Worldwide tournament in Massena this weekend is being moved to the intake.
Councilor Tom Miller at Wednesday night's town board meeting said the river level brought up a safety concern.
"The levels so low the anglers would had to walk about 30 yards in the water. It's unsafe," he said. "There will be some adjustments to the parking... we'll get through it."
He noted that as of Wednesday, 130 anglers are registered for the tournament, and 200 children are signed up for the kids' tournament.
Miller spent several minutes applauding various organizations and government groups for providing in-kind services to make the tournament happen.
He thanked Highway Superintendent Frank Diagostino, Massena Electric Department, Terry Peets from the Massena Recreation Department, the Village of Waddington for loaning a bandshell, Pat Curran for donating two generators, the New York Power Authority, the Town of Louisville and St. Lawrence Centre Manager Erica Leonard for hosting FLW meetings and serving food.
"Let's hope for a safe tournament and a successful tournament," Miller said.
