MASSENA — Town officials are urging anyone who wishes to use the playground slides at Alcoa Field to check them prior to use after multiple fish hooks were found melted into the plastic slide.
Town officials learned of the issues when Town Councilor Adrian Taraska, who is assigned to the Massena Joint Recreation Commission, reported the findings during the board’s June 15 meeting.
Taraska said the slide was partially melted in spots, allowing the perpetrator to insert the hooks throughout the slide.
“They did find that someone had melted fish hooks into the slides at Alcoa Field, which is horrible,” he said.
“I just want to make sure everyone takes precautions if they go to use any of the playgrounds to make sure to look them over before you let your kids play on them,” Taraska continued.
Alcoa Fields currently have no cameras, though the Joint Recreation Commission has a system on order. Officials say the cameras have not yet arrived.
Taraska said there were no injuries reported and that the situation was handled after someone likely noticed the hooks.
Officials say the hooks were removed, though they did urge caution before using the slide again.
