OGDENSBURG — A cybersecurity incident has affected Claxton Hepburn Medical Centers and Carthage Area Hospital, according to a press release.

Officials say they are working to ensure the privacy and security of patient and employee information and will continue to offer all services without interruption.

According to a press release, IT security software, which runs 24 hours per day, reported a notice of unusual activity at 6 p.m. on Aug. 31.

IT professionals worked through the night after the incident was reported, identifying potential impacts to the healthcare community, officials say.

That work continues at this hour, they continued.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), New York State Department of Health (DOH) and Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services (DHSES) have all been involved in the investigation.

Officials say most services at Carthage and Claxton Hepburn and all satellite facilities are operating as scheduled without impact.

Emergency rooms have been put on diversion, meaning other area hospitals have been notified and are prepared to receive patients as needed.

No indications of patient information being leaked have been found, officials say.
