Saints baseball falls to No. 13 Johns Hopkins in Florida finale

No. 13 Johns Hopkins scored 15 unanswered runs en route to a 16-2 win over the St. Lawrence University baseball team in the Saints' final game in Fort Myers, Florida on Saturday morning.

Seniors Alex Black and Joe DeGuardia led the Saints at the plate, as each finished 1-for-3 with a run scored. Brian Comerford also went 1-for-3 and recorded the Saints' lone RBI of the game.

Taylor Digilio, Nicholas Butler and Evan O'Keeffe each finished with a hit on the afternoon in the loss.

St. Lawrence took a 2-1 lead with two runs on two hits in the bottom of the second inning, but were retired in order and held without a hit into the seventh inning.

Black led off the second inning with a single to left field and DeGuardia reached on an error by Johns Hopkins' starter Sean McCracken to put two on with no one out. Jake Delaney laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the Saints into scoring position and both runners were able to score on a two-out infield single by Comerford.

Johns Hopkins outhit the Saints 15-6 on Saturday and was aided by five St. Lawrence errors. The Blue Jays were also aggressive on the bases, scoring two runs in the sixth inning when runners stole home.

The Blue Jays, who led 9-2 heading into the top of the eighth, tacked on seven more runs on five hits, including a two-run home run to right field by Austin Sacks, to push to the final 16-2 margin.

Starting pitcher Patrick Greenan threw 6.0 strong innings, allowing six runs (four earned) on seven hits with four strikeouts. Anthony Ferraro, Charlie Pacilio and Louis LaCivita each pitched an inning in relief, with LaCivita allowing just one hit and recording a strikeout.
