Opinion: Survey results do not represent entire county, says Gouverneur man

To the Editor:

As I have suspected for a long time, North Country Now seems to be biased toward the Liberal Canton and Potsdam area and does not represent and is not read by the entire North Country. The opinions of most of the readers are mostly against traditional American values and favor the new politically correct degeneration of our society.

A recent poll where over 72% of the readers said they would not attend a county fair this year really shows the difference in the cultures between the Canton-Potsdam group and the rest of St. Lawrence County. The attendance every day at the Gouverneur & St. Lawrence County fair was way up this year along with grandstand show numbers with our Demolition Derby being totally sold out. Other fairs such as the one in Lewis County also set attendance records despite bad weather.

The lion’s share of the people in Northern New York are good, old fashioned, tough, determined, individuals who love getting together a good time at the county fair and we are not going to let a little bug like Covid which has been blown way out of proportion by the politicians scare us at all! Reading the comments from people who live a life scared of their own shadow makes me just want to tell them to “grow a pair”. Covid, like any other threat needs to be handled with a bold, self-confident attitude. I believe in The Power of Positive Thinking and believe that faith in God is the best way to survive this and any other danger coming my way.

It makes me proud to be a part of the real North Country! It is too bad that we don’t have a publication that reflected our lifestyle and opinions.
