Opinion: Potsdam town board member backs Miller for town supervisor

To the Editor:

I hope to encourage Potsdam residents to vote for Marty Miller for Potsdam Town Supervisor. Over the last two years, I have served on the Potsdam Town Board with Miller. During this time, I have found him to be an extremely capable, knowledgeable, and practical Board Member and Deputy Town Supervisor. Miller has worked in local government on the county level, from his current role in the Village of Massena, and through many volunteer organizations, including the Norwood Fire Department.

He is intricately involved in many ongoing projects and committees at the Town of Potsdam. He has brought his thoughtful experience to tackling a complete revamp of the Town Recreation Program at Postwood, with hopes of providing similar youth and community programs at Unionville Playground. He will balance a pragmatic budget with providing services for our Town residents.

Many residents have told me they are choosing not to vote for Miller because of some of his personal views. While Miller and I have not always agreed or voted the same on every issue, he has always been respectful of others’ opinions. I think it is important to have a variety of opinions on the Board. We need to represent everyone in Potsdam, not just those we agree with.

There are multiple write-in candidates running for Potsdam Town Supervisor. While these candidates may have the best intentions and ideas, where were they in the spring, when Miller was canvassing and campaigning to secure his name on your ballot? Where were they when the time came and went to run for Town Board? Miller has put in the work for the last four years, and will continue to put in the work for the next four. I truly believe that Potsdam needs Marty Miller as Supervisor.

Please take the time to vote either on November 7th (Voting Day) or during early voting, which will take place from 9-5 from 10/28-11/5 at both the Dobinsky Center in Ogdensburg and at 42 Maple St. in Potsdam (the former Honda dealership).
