Harrisville Central School names 2022 class leaders

HARRISVILLE — Harrisville Central School has named its 2022 class leaders.

Caroline Delles, daughter of Kevin and Jodi Delles, Harrisville, has earned the highest academic award of valedictorian for the class of 2022.

Caroline plans to attend SUNY Jefferson in the fall to major in liberal arts. She hopes to study photography while at JCC and eventually open her own photography studio in the future. She started experimenting with her camera during the pandemic and found that she truly enjoys taking pictures.

At graduation, Caroline will receive a Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation with Mastery in Mathematics. Caroline’s seven semester academic average is 96.5. She will have dual enrollment credits through North Country Community College in pre-calculus and English composition.

Caroline has been active in many school extracurriculars. Caroline’s most meaningful activity has been playing on the varsity girls’ softball team. She enjoys working as a team and the feeling of family and support that the team provides. She is a four year member of the high school chorus and has taken part in NYSSMA solos. She is a member of the drama club and enjoys performing on stage. She is a former member of the National Junior Honor Society and is currently the treasurer of the Bonaparte Chapter of the National Honor Society. For her senior year, Caroline is serving as president of the Student Representatives Assembly and secretary of the Youth Advisory Council. She has worked in the summer at Harrisville Central School and during the school year as the bookkeeper for the varsity boys’ soccer team.

Caroline has participated in many community service activities. Her favorite community service activity has been the HCS Roadside Clean-Up. She enjoyed the time spent outside with friends and knowing that she was helping to beautify the community. She has helped in multiple American Red Cross Blood Drives at HCS. She also helps grocery shop and pack bags for the HCS Backpack Program.

Caroline’s honors include: National Honor Society, Harrisville Central School Academic Letters and High Honor Roll, and WWNY TV 7 Academic All-Star.

Caroline’s advice for students of HCS: “Do not procrastinate. It doesn’t work out trying to do long assignments in one evening. Your hard work will pay off. Just cherish your high school years.”

Salutatorian

Jayla Hall, daughter of Stacey Bowen and Dustin Hall of Harrisville, has earned the second highest academic award of salutatorian for the class of 2022. Jayla plans to study data science in college. She plans on attending the University of Rochester to study data science. Her ideal career is to become a data analyst. She hopes to work from home and spend a lot of time traveling.

Jayla’s academic grade point average for seven semesters is 96.2 and she will receive an Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation with Mastery in Mathematics and Mastery in Science at graduation in June. Jayla will receive dual enrollment credits through North Country Community College in US History, English Literature, English Composition, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Spanish IV and Spanish V. Jayla’s most meaningful high school activity is her academics. She feels that her academics have challenged her and allow her to see the extent of her capabilities.

Jayla has been active in many school groups and sports. She is a former member of the National Junior Honor Society and is currently a fourth-generation member of the Bonaparte Chapter of the National Honor Society. She has been a member of the High School Band and Student Representative Assembly for four years. She has been a member of the Youth Advisory Council (YAC) for three years and acted as president of YAC for one of those years. She is a member of the Green team. Jayla played soccer for two years and basketball for one year.

Jayla’s favorite activity has been being part of the HCS Roadside Clean-Up. She likes that this activity is outside, spent walking with friends, and helping both the community and environment. Other community service activities include volunteering at American Red Cross blood drives, the HCS Backpack Program and various community beautification projects. Jayla also works at Stefano’s Pizzeria part time.

Jayla’s honors include: National Honor Society, Harrisville Central School Academic Letters and High Honor Roll, Clarkson University Leadership Award, Rochester Institute of Technology Computing Medal, St. Bonaventure University Bonnie Scholar Award, St. Lawrence University Augsbury Scholar, and University of Rochester Bausch & Lomb Science Award Jayla’s notes to HCS: “Don’t limit yourself. Try different things. You will be surprised at what you might like.”

Top 2-Year Vocational Award

Breanna Shampine, daughter of Melissa LaParr and John Shampine, Harrisville, NY, has earned the Highest Vocational Award for a senior with two years in a vocational program for the class of 2022. Breanna has an overall GPA of 93.7 and will receive a Regents Diploma in June. Breanna plans to join the work force next year. She hopes to become a mortuary cosmetologist.

Breanna attends the Southwest Technical Center in Fowler, NY for Cosmetology. She plans to obtain her NYS cosmetology license at the end of this year. Through SWT, her academic studies have provided a wide range of experiences. Breanna says that she has learned from many different professionals during these experiences and it has helped her in planning for her future. She is spending her work base learning at Ultimate Experience Salon in Gouverneur.

Breanna’s honors include: National Honor Society, Honor and High Honor Roll at Harrisville Central School, and Student of the Month at Southwest Technical Center, and Keuka College George H. Ball Community Achievement Award

Breanna’s favorite and most meaningful activity has been playing softball for one year. She liked her coach and enjoyed time spent with her peers. Breanna also played soccer for one year. Breanna works part time at Slider’s Food Mart and also babysits in her spare time.

Breanna’s most meaningful volunteer activity was the annual Road Side Clean-up because it allowed her to spend time with her friends while helping the community. She also has volunteered at the HCS Trunk or Treat.

Advice that Breanna would like to share: “Don’t sweat the small stuff. School may be stressful at times but when you are done, it is so worth it.”
