POTSDAM – The Village Diner, in the Market Square Mall at 22 Depot St., is looking to add to their business during this precarious business environment.
“We decided to double down,” said Denise Davis, who owns the diner along with her husband Jarrod.
The couple purchased a 40-foot RV trailer and customized it into an ice cream concession truck.
Currently they have capacity for two flavors, one which is a dedicated wine soft serve.
On Mother’s Day Weekend, they will be offering a special of fresh strawberry shortcake with vanilla soft serve and homemade biscuit, as well as the wine soft serve.
They are expecting to add at least one or two more soft serve machines in the future for additional flavors.
The soft opening began on Saturday, May 2, was a nice success with the assistance of warm, sunny weather, Davis said.
They received their permits and permission from the village to park the RV trailer next to their business in the Market Square Mall off Depot Street.
The trailer is also equipped with living quarters, so they are able to take it to fairs and farmer’s markets for extended days, according to Davis.
Currently cash only, customers must wear a mask to order and be served, and are asked to practice proper social distance while waiting.
Those ordering wine soft serve must be 21, and may be asked to show proof of age.
