The number of nonfarm jobs in St. Lawrence County was unchanged in August from the August 2018 figure of 38,000, according to the latest figures from the state Department of Labor.
In neighboring Franklin County, the number of nonfarm jobs went down this August, to 18,800 from 19,000 in August 2018, down 1.1%.
And in Jefferson County, to our west, the number of nonfarm jobs rose slightly, from 43,300 in August 2018 to 43,500 in August 2019, up 0.5%.
In statewide trends over the past year, the Department of Labor says the biggest increases in employment between August 2018 and August 2019 came from private educational and health services, leisure and hospitality, and trade, transportation and utilities.
