Memorial Day celebrated
ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY: Several communities are hosting Memorial Day activities this year, parades, wreath layings, graveside services, gun salutes and lunches are planned; Ogdensburg VFW Post 2936 hosting Memorial Day ceremony at Riverside Cemetery, light luncheon to follow at the post at 1112 Champlain St.; Massena VFW organizing Memorial Day parade, with the American Legion and Amvets posts also participating, at 10:30 a.m., procession will start at Sacred Heart and go to Memorial Park by the Fire Department on Andrews Street; Gouverneur American Legion hosting a parade Monday up Main Street to the village park downtown from 10 a.m.-noon, parade lineup will be from 9-9:30 a.m.; Star Lake American Legion Post 1539 hosting bullhead feed at the post at 264 Star Lake Rd., from 1-3 p.m.; in Canton, the Edward C. Seymour VFW Post 1231 staging parade from the old Reserve center off West Main Street to the village green park, starts at 10 a.m., stops for a wreath ceremony on the Route 11 bridge near Heritage Park and in St. Mary’s Cemetery for a wreath ceremony as well, 21-gun volley and “Taps” played at the park at the end of the parade, light luncheon will follow at the post at 34 Gouverneur St.; public is welcome.
45th annual Radiothon
MASSENA: Massena Rescue Squad hosting its 45th annual Radiothon with WMSA at the squad headquarters, 341 E. Orvis St., 11 a.m.-4 p.m.; silent auction of autographed sports photos and memorabilia, trip to a PGA tournament, 5-day trip to the Caribbean, 8-day resort trip to Mexico, Florida or Las Vegas, a Derek Jeter ring, and other items; bounce houses, dunk tank, children’s games, free hotdogs and other activities are planned; vintage car show will also be held starting at 9 a.m. with a trophy and prize to the best in show, no charge to enter a car; 315-764-1744.
Sign dedication
MORRISTOWN: Village of Morristown invites the public to a dedication ceremony to unveil three new National Historic Register signs; signs have been placed at the Stone Windmill (1825), The Stone Schoolhouse, (1824), and the Land Office (1823) which is now part of the Morristown Public Library; dedication of these Historic National Register signs will be part of the Villages Memorial Day Ceremonies at Chapman Park which will start at 10 a.m.; in case of inclement weather, the ceremonies will move to the Morristown Fire Hall on Morris Street.
