CANTON – There’s a new sergeant in a shuffling Canton Police Department.
The Canton Village Board approved the appointment of Adam Clark at its monthly meeting on Wednesday night. Clark fills the sergeant void left by Ryan Cole who is now Canton’s police chief, succeeding James Santimaw who has retired. The appointment is effective March 2.
A search for a new patrol officer is underway to bring the department up to full capacity.
“Adam is an intelligent officer who is going to do very well in this new role and police sergeant,” stated Cole.
“I’m really excited to bring him on as a sergeant. He will bring the team some great experience,” said Trustee Beth Larrabee.
Clark started his career in law enforcement in 2017 as an officer with SUNY Canton University police. From there, he transferred to the Canton Police Department to work as a patrol officer in 2018. Since then Clark has served as a School Resource Officer at Canton Central School, a juvenile officer, a general topic instructor at the local academies and a Field training officer.
Clark is also currently serving as a First Sergeant with the New York State Air National Guard 174th Attack Wing. Adam has served in the Air National Guard since 2006.
