Fire destroys building in Gouverneur

A structure fire destroyed a building on Beckwith Street in the village early Sunday, Gouverneur fire officials said.
The Gouverneur Fire Department was called to the reported fire at 4:35 a.m. The first chief on scene, 11-2, found the building fully involved. Firefighters from Engine 17 reportedly laid a supply line from a nearby hydrant and set up two hand lines. The building was a total loss, but no neighboring structures were damaged and no injuries were reported, officials said. The St. Lawrence County Fire Investigation Team is looking into the cause of the fire.
Gouverneur units at the scene included 11-2, 11-3, Engine 17, ETA-101, TA-6 and Truck 2. A Richville engine stood by as mutual aid.
