CANTON -- The Unitarian Universalist Church of Canton is calling for nominations for their annual Rachel Somers Grant Social Action Award.
Every June the church recognizes a person in the wider North Country community with this award. The award serves to honor individuals who:
• Promote local grassroots efforts as a means of achieving social change
• Advocate on behalf of social justice, especially for those who are marginalized in some way
• Are actively involved in a variety of local groups working for a better community
• Provide leadership in promoting social justice and change
• Organize and support community members in pursuit of social justice.
The church’s Social Action Committee seeks nominations from anyone in our community. Nominations should explain how the individual contributes to the work of social justice in some of the above ways.
Nominations are due by April 25, 2020 and may be sent to the Unitarian Universalist Church at 3 1/2 Main Street or sent electronically to: socialaction@gmail.com.
