St. Lawrence County swimmers found success during the Adirondack Long Course Championships in Cortland July 18-21.

Northern TRIBS Swimming had three age group champions: Gretchen Braun of Lisbon won first place for the senior age group; Tori Cusworth of Massena won second place for the 11-12 age group; and, Sonja Wultsch-Fuller of Brasher Falls tied for third place in the 13-14 age group.

Braun swept all six of her events during finals while Tori and Sonja competed in nine events.

Wultsch-Fuller had to swim most of her races twice (prelims and finals) for a total of 15 individual races plus one relay.

During the championships, Braun broke meet records in the 50 Meter Freestyle (27.15), the 100 Meter Freestyle (58.65), and the 100 Meter Backstroke (1:03.99).

She also broke a 30-year-old Adirondack district record in the 50-free and reset that district record in the 100 backstroke breaking her previous record of 1:04.33.

The Northern TRIBS Swimming Long Course Championship team also consisted of Caleb and Julia Braun from Lisbon, Piper Goeko and Hannah Hart from Malone, and Ella and Kinsley Sekelj from Potsdam.

Overall, the 9-member team ranked 7th out of 11 clubs, some having over 30 members.

Up next, Gretchen Braun is traveling to Irvine, CA for the July 23-27, 2024 Speedo Summer Championships while Cusworth and Wultsch-Fuller  head to the August 7-10, 2024 Long Course Age Group Championships in Hampton, VA.
