Thomas Leo Doud, 95, Massena

MASSENA -- Thomas Leo Doud passed away peacefully on April 12, 2024, at CVPH in Plattsburgh NY one day after his 95th birthday.

Calling hours will be held on April 23, 2024, at Phillips Memorial Home in Massena from 4pm – 7pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Massena on April 24, 2024, at 10am, followed by burial at St. Lawrence Cemetery, Louisville.

Thomas was born on April 11, 1929, in Massena, NY to the late Thomas P. Doud and Olive B. (Foley) Doud.

Thomas attended Sacred Heart grade school and graduated from Massena Central High School in the class of 1947.

Thomas was employed by Jas. A Murphy IGA Grocery, the Northern New York Grocery Company and Alcoa where he worked in the Cost and Accounting department, retiring in 1989 with 42 years of service.

Thomas was a proud member of the Alcoa 25-year club and looked forward to attending the banquets where he would visit with friend and colleagues.

Thomas entered the U.S. Army on January 17, 1951, at Fort Dix, NJ and was assigned to the 32nd Infantry Regiment of the 7th Division.

Thomas served his country in the Korean War and returned to a U.S. assignment in Ft. Meade, MD before being honorably discharged to the reserves on October 17, 1952. Thomas was discharged from the reserves on October 16, 1957. Thomas earned three Bronze Stars and Commendation from Commanding General with United Nations Service Metal.

On June 1, 1963, Thomas married his devoted and loving wife of 60 years, Siegrid Marianna Dreher. Together they walked through life, devoted to each other and their strong faith in God.

They regularly said the rosary together especially while taking car rides. They were lifelong members of Sacred Heart Parish. Their strong faith was a cornerstone of their relationship and guiding light of how they lived their lives.

Once retired Thomas became extremely active in the community, having involvement in multiple organizations.

He was a member of the Sacred Heart Church Holy Name Society and Usher’s Society; Local #180 Office and Professional Workers International Union, 32nd Infantry Association, past secretary and former board member of St Lawrence Chapter #2831 AARP, member and past Faithful Navigator and past Faithful Purser and past Faithful Admiral of the St. Lawrence Assembly #710 4th Degree Knights of Columbus member and past president of the St. Lawrence Council #1141 Retiree’s Club, member and past director of the Massena Senior Citizen’s Club, member of the St. Regis Mohawk Senior Citizen’s Club; member of the Massena Aluminum Historical Association, Life member of the Earl J. Santimaw Post #1143 VFW and Retiree’s Club, Life member of American Legion Post #79, member of the Massena Chamber of Commerce Ambassador’s Club, HIICAP Councilor of St. Lawrence County Office for the Aging and Life membership of Massena Elks Lodge No. 1702.

Thomas is survived by his loving wife, Siegrid; his daughter, Mary Ellen Thibault, his son, Timothy and wife, Eowyn; grandchildren, Alicia Ashley and husband, Dustin, Timothy and his wife, Charlyn and daughter, Olivia, Corinne Thibault and daughter, Gwendalyn, Benjamin Thibault, step grandchildren, Michael and Rachel Hewey, nieces, Mary Mulcahy (husband, Jack) and Ann LaRose (husband, Tim) and their children.

Along with his parents Thomas P and Olive B, Thomas was predeceased by his sister, Catherine Elizabeth Doud O’Brien, twins: Marion Dorothy (passed away at 9 days old) and Donald Lawrence, his niece, Eileen O’Brien and great grandchildren, Ava and Atlas Ashley.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Massena Rescue Squad.
