State Police warns of an uptick in fraud dealing with unemployment claims

Posted

State Police has recently seen an uptick in the amount of fraudulent New York State unemployment claims being made to individuals across the state as well as in Troop B, said a press release.

These fraudulent claims are occurring to multiple people in various types of employment statewide, including those who are retired and/or unemployed.

State Police and the New York State Department of Labor (DOL) offer these tips for anyone who receives a Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) notice from the NYS Department of Labor, and you did not legitimately make a claim:

• Report the fraudulent activity to your local police

• Report the fraudulent activity to your employer

• Report the fraudulent activity to the NYS Department of Labor in 1 of 3 ways:

1. Online Form: https://webapps.labor.ny.gov/dews/ui/fraud/fraud.shtm

2. DOL Hotline: 888-598-2077

3. US Mail: NYSDOL Office of Special Investigations, Building# 12 – Room 576, W. Averell Harriman Campus, Albany, NY 12240

Monitor your credit and various accounts to ensure no suspicious activity is occurring, state police said.
