MASSENA -- WPBS is hosting a watch party for the PBS-produced "Upstate Attractions" episode about the St. Lawrence Seaway on July 31.

The event, which will be held at the Seaway Visitor Center, will allow the public a first look at the documentary that recaps the history of the Seaway and its impact on the region.

"The Seaway Visitor Center tells the story of an engineering marvel that drives our region's history and economy. Bringing this interactive center to life—and seeing it highlighted on PBS’s Upstate Attractions—took incredible teamwork, Visitor Center and Community Relations Manager Amy Stark said.

She said the collaboration will highlight Massena maritime legacy in a way that has never been experienced before.

"We owe a huge thank you to PBS, our Seaway and local government leaders, the Chamber of Commerce, non-profit leaders, and the dedicated educators from both our K-12 public schools and local universities. Their partnership makes it possible to share Massena's maritime legacy with the world," Stark said.

"We can't wait to gather with our neighbors, celebrate this milestone, and watch our community shine on screen."

"The St. Lawrence Seaway is one of the world's ultimate maritime superhighways, famously linking the Great Lakes directly to the Atlantic Ocean. Right here in Massena, the Seaway Visitor Center at Eisenhower Lock stands as a brand-new, interactive museum dedicated to portraying the incredible story of the Seaway’s legacy, its massive economic impact, and its deep roots in our community," Seaway officials said.

The spotlight on PBS comes in conjunction with a broader effort to promote the natural attractions and tourism in the North Country.

Seaway officials said the watch party will showcase the history, engineering significance and community spirit of the Seaway Visitor Center.

The event will be held on Friday, July 31 from 2-3:30 p.m.

Members of the public are encouraged to grab a spot and enjoy complimentary refreshments while they chat with fellow ship-watching enthusiasts.

A brief, exclusive commentary and Q&A with the documentary filmmakers will follow the screening of the episode.

Admission is free to everyone and the public are encouraged to bring family, friends, neighbors and lovers of maritime history to the event.
