MASSENA - Rochester Regional Health’s St. Lawrence team is proud to welcome Terry Pummer, DO as the new Medical Director of Advanced Wound Care Services. Dr. Pummer brings over two decades of specialized experience in wound and burn care, including extensive practice in Louisiana and Mississippi, to our community.
With roots in Pennsylvania, Dr. Pummer earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2002 and completed his residency from the Heart of Lancaster Regional Medical Center in 2005.
Throughout his career, Dr. Pummer has held leadership roles in wound care across multiple states. Most recently, he served as the Medical Director of Wound Care at Ochsner Health Northshore in Covington, Louisiana, where he led a multidisciplinary team in providing comprehensive wound management services. He also contributed to the development of wound care programs in Mississippi, including his tenure as Area Medical Director for Healogics in the state.
Dr. Pummer’s clinical interests encompass a wide range of complex wound care conditions, including venous stasis ulcers, chronic osteomyelitis, lymphedema, and late radiation tissue injuries.
“When I started my search for a new position, Massena was one of the offers I was given. While it was the coldest option, given that I was in New Orleans, my wife and I were very impressed with the warm welcome we were given despite being in January. The people were warm and compassionate about helping others,” said Dr. Pummer.
“When it came down to making our decision, my wife summed it up saying ‘You can’t say no to this opportunity as it is everything you were looking for in a position as well as a great place to continue our adventure together.’ Massena is a place we can both call home. The people, lifestyle and the outdoor activities as well as the opportunity to continue my professional growth. It offers a unique opportunity to continue to develop my skills and knowledge in wound care, and work with the team to develop a program that will become the gold standard in upstate New York,” noted Dr. Pummer.
“My favorite quote of all times is by Walt Disney, I have a picture that has hung in my previous office and reflects the way I feel about wound care: ‘It’s kind of fun to do the impossible’. When people come to us and it seems like an impossibility to help them, we will work to make it not only a possibility but rather a probability,” added Dr. Pummer.
As the new leader of the Wound Care team, Dr. Pummer will guide patient care, support the clinical team, and ensure that the St. Lawrence Region remains at the forefront of advanced wound care offerings.
